Shopmacher is now a MACH Alliance member

To become a MACH Alliance member, you have to prove that MACH is more than a slide deck and actually works in real systems. The certification process is rigorous and the requirements are high. That is exactly why this membership matters to us. Worldwide, only a few agencies have provided this proof. Now Shopmacher has too. And yes, we are damn proud of it.
Why we became a member
Because we are convinced that modular, open architectures are the best way to build commerce systems that stay scalable over the long term. Not for a single project, but for a constantly changing retail landscape. We have carried this conviction into every project since 2016. And every day we see it confirmed.
But conviction alone is not enough. It takes a strong community to spread this way of thinking and push it forward. We still see that the advantages of modular architectures are not recognized clearly enough in many companies, that decision-makers hold on to monolithic systems because switching seems complex, and that potential goes untapped. Shopmacher wants to help change that. We want to make IT better. And the MACH Alliance is the right place to do that together.
What it means to be MACH-certified
Certification by the MACH Alliance is not a label you apply for and simply receive. The process is demanding and tests what counts in daily practice: How are architectures conceived? Are the solutions truly modular, API-based, cloud-native and decoupled, or does that only appear in the proposal? Only those who can demonstrate that MACH principles work in real systems and actual client projects are admitted.
For retailers and decision-makers, this is a strong signal. Anyone working with a MACH-certified partner knows that its architectural approach has been reviewed by an independent, vendor-neutral organization. That builds trust on a level that goes beyond references and self-presentation.
How we live MACH
For Shopmacher, MACH was never a theoretical model. It is the way we design, develop and operate commerce platforms. For years, in every project. Clear system boundaries, clean data flows and transparent processes create what we call digital autonomy: the freedom to keep developing systems at any time, to swap out individual components and to map new business models in technology without depending on a single vendor.
For every building block of a commerce solution we choose the technology that best fits the project at hand, whether that is PIM, search, content management, payment or the commerce core. What matters is not a fixed set of tools, but the ability to assemble the right combination for the specific requirements and to integrate it cleanly. That is the difference between a MACH slide and a MACH architecture.
A boutique with depth
We deliberately work as a boutique. Around 70 people at our sites in Gescher and Ho Chi Minh City, close collaboration, short paths and real proximity to technology and clients. This size allows us to take responsibility for technical breadth and depth in equal measure, without quality getting lost in scaling. This is exactly the way of working that the certification process confirmed. It is not about the size of a company, but about the consistency with which principles are put into practice.
Why MACH is decisive right now
The importance of clean architectures shows especially in the context of artificial intelligence. AI amplifies existing structures, in both directions. Those who have their data foundation, system boundaries and processes under control gain speed and quality through AI. Those who do not master these basics mainly scale their problems. MACH architectures create exactly the structural clarity that AI applications need to deliver real value. For Shopmacher this is not a future scenario but already reality in ongoing projects.
About the MACH Alliance
The MACH Alliance was founded in 2020 as a vendor-independent, non-commercial organization and today unites more than 100 members across six continents. MACH stands for Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native and Headless, four principles that together form the basis for Composable Commerce. Admission happens exclusively through a certification process that checks the actual implementation of these principles. Analysts like Forrester describe MACH certification as a mark of quality for future-ready technology partners.
