5 years of partnership with BVB

From Shopmacher to digital playmaker
Phil and Manuel hand over the SHOPMACHER trophy for 5 years of successful collaboration.
Tell us, Phil, how did the collaboration with BVB begin?
The kickoff for our collaboration with BVB was in June 2019. Back then we got the mandate to take over the club's B2B and B2C instances. After a two-month onboarding phase came the first stress test: on December 7, 2019 the players took the field in the special Coal and Steel jersey and triggered an incredible run on the club's shop. Within 15 minutes the server crashed, a perfect assist for our team, which did not hesitate for long and brought the technology back online in record time. Shortly after the shop was back up, it was recording almost 1,000 orders per minute. Heja BVB!
What were the milestones of the past 5 years?
After this baptism of fire, the focus of our work was initially on stabilizing the systems. We made sure sales ran smoothly and storytelling worked, even under high-load scenarios. Next came internationalization, a comprehensive frontend relaunch and in-depth consulting services. The collaboration developed further, milestone by milestone. From operational support to a strategic partnership in which processes were optimized, workflows improved and a fan-centered architecture developed.
What sounds like a lot of work here really was a very challenging job. At the same time, it was a huge joy for the black-and-yellow heart that beats in many of our developers and consultants. Especially when event highlights like the DFB Cup at our office in Gescher or the Champions League final at Wembley came around.
How has the collaboration developed over the years?
Starting out as an integrator and development team, we now do considerably more for BVB. We have become a firm technology partner and solution developer. By now the club follows our expert advice not only on e-commerce projects, but also when it comes to digital business processes and product data management. Over the past 5 years we have earned a regular spot in the BVB digital squad. Something we are, in case it has not become clear yet, incredibly proud of.
What were the biggest successes?
The results of our collaboration speak for themselves: we can point to rising revenue and sales figures in e-commerce, the automation and standardization of previously error-prone processes, and a continuous improvement in data quality and speed. On top of that, we reduced security risks and significantly expanded our mandates in development, project management and consulting. So after the match is before the match for us too. Things continue happily with BVB into the future. And that delights not only the BVB hardcore fans on our team.
