The Shopmacher are a member of the MACH Alliance

If you want to become a member of the MACH Alliance, you have to prove that MACH doesn’t just stand on slides, but works in real systems. The certification process is rigorous and the requirements are high. And that is precisely why this admission is special for us. Only a few agencies worldwide have provided this proof. The Shopmacher now have too. And yes, we are damn proud of that.

Why we became a member

Because we are convinced that modular, open architectures are the best way to build commerce systems that remain scalable in the long term. Not for a single project, but for a constantly changing retail landscape. We have been carrying this conviction into every project since 2016. And we see it confirmed every day.

But conviction alone is not enough. A strong community is needed to spread and promote this way of thinking. We continue to see that the advantages of modular architectures are not recognized clearly enough in many companies, that decision-makers cling to monolithic systems because the change seems complex and that potential remains untapped. Shopmacher wants to help change this. We want to make IT better. And the MACH Alliance is the right place to do this together.

MACH

What it means to be MACH-certified

Certification by the MACH Alliance is not a label that you apply for and receive. The process is demanding and tests what counts in everyday life: How are architectures designed? Are the solutions really modular, API-based, cloud-native and decoupled, or is it just in the offer? Only those who can prove that MACH principles work in real systems and real customer projects are accepted.

This is a strong signal for retailers and decision-makers. Anyone working with a MACH-certified partner knows that their architecture approach has been tested by an independent, vendor-neutral organization. This creates trust on a level that goes beyond references and self-presentation.

How we live MACH

For Shopmacher, MACH has never been a theoretical model. It is the way we design, develop and operate commerce platforms. For years, in every project. Clear system boundaries, clean data flows and traceable processes create what we call digital autonomy: the freedom to develop systems further at any time, replace individual components and map new business models technologically without being dependent on one provider.

For each building block of a commerce solution, we select the technology that best suits the respective project, whether PIM, search, content management, payment or commerce core. The decisive factor is not a fixed set of tools, but the ability to put together the right combination for the specific requirements and to integrate them cleanly. This is what makes the difference between a MACH slide and a MACH architecture.

Boutique with depth

We consciously work as a boutique. Around 70 people at our locations in Gescher and Ho Chi Minh City, close cooperation, short distances and real proximity to technology and customers. This size enables us to take responsibility for technical breadth and depth in equal measure, without compromising quality for scale. It is precisely this way of working that the certification process has confirmed. It is not about the size of a company, but about the consistency with which principles are implemented.

Why MACH is crucial right now

The importance of clean architectures is particularly evident in the context of artificial intelligence. AI reinforces existing structures, in both directions. Those who have their database, system boundaries and processes under control will gain speed and quality through AI. Those who do not have these basics under control will mainly be scaling problems. MACH architectures create precisely the structural clarity that AI applications need to deliver real added value. For the Shopmacher, this is not a future scenario, but already a reality in current projects.

About the MACH Alliance

The MACH Alliance was founded in 2020 as a vendor-independent, non-commercial organization and today unites over 100 members on six continents. MACH stands for microservices, API-first, cloud-native and headless, four principles that together form the basis for composable commerce. Admission is based exclusively on a certification process that verifies the actual implementation of these principles. Analysts such as Forrester describe MACH certification as a seal of approval for future-proof technology partners.

The solution: building the bridge between actual and target

The crew is ready, the foundations have been checked and the compass is aligned. Now comes the supreme discipline: how does the vision become a feasible plan? The solution closes the gap between the status quo and the target image – transparently, without a black box and, above all, without the dangerous “guesswork trap”.

The target image: Why a feature list is not yet a compass

If you start without a clear destination, you shouldn’t be surprised if you end up somewhere completely different. Many companies make a classic mistake here: they confuse the detailed route planning with the actual destination. But while a rigid plan collapses at the first obstacle, a real target image gives the crew orientation even in stormy times.
